WEX & EEP

WEX and EEP stands for Work experience and employability, enrichment and progression.

On this page are the reflections of the social actions - such as guest speakers, employability talks, organised activities and directed study projects - which I have attended. I will state who it was by, what it was about and how I can benefit from it.

Canterbury Film Festival:

This opportunity was on the 23rd October 2021 at Westgate Hall in Canterbury. This was 2 hours of the 30 hours of work experience that I have to complete. The work experience consisted of taking photos of the performers during their sets. I viewed two groups which were Canterbury Academy and Fulston Manor School. This work experience built my confidence as it was my first time taking photos in a public setting. I had to beware of the audience in case they didn't want their photo taken. I also had to work around the lights as it was ruining the quality of the photos.

Here are some photos from the event.

MMS-360 Editing Task:

This opportunity was in February 2022 and was 3 hours of my 30 hours of work experience that I have to complete. The task was an editing task set by MMS-360 Media. The whole task was to create some sort of advertisement for social media. We had to edit the footage given to us using multiple shots, colour correct the scenes and add copyright free background music. I edited this task in Avid. It also required me to change the quality down to 1080p as the original quality was in 4k. The one improvement I would give myself is to fix the audio when we have a diagonal view of the subject as it is quiet due tot he microphone being to the side of the voice.

Here are some photos of me working on Avid:

Arsenal Football Club:

This opportunity was on 19th April 2022 and was 6 hours of my 30 hours of work experience that I have to complete. The opportunity required me going to Arsenal and working with the editors, producers, directors and live production team to see what they do on a day to day basis and how they got to where they are. I prepared some questions to ask the guys so I could see how I can get to a position like theirs as well as the steps they took and their favorite part of working within media.

Initially, I was with an editor who was working on a new video to upload on the Arsenal F.C. Youtube Channel. He gave me advice on what to do after College as well as showing me how he edits sport, as it requires a slightly different editing style to other genres. They were also planning and editing the next episodes of their two TV shows. Here was one of the videos he was editing at the time:

A lot of the editors within Arsenal found their place through connections, as well as their skills within camera work and editing. The advice they gave me was to constantly mess around with editing software's so I can learn them quickly, I already know the basics of Avid but Arsenal use Premiere Pro, which is easier to learn after knowing Avid. They also said it'll be good if I can create a show reel so if a opportunity ever arises, I have work ready to show.

Next, I worked with the person who produces, script writes, directs, and live produces most of Arsenal's video content. This is where we went down to the room which allow Arsenal to stream live content. This specific content was a Press Conference with Mikel Arteta, Arsenal's Manager. I learnt a lot about live production and what it takes.

I also visited their studio room:

This experience definitely helped me more with deciding what exactly I want to go into in the future and how to do so. I hope I have the opportunity to visit again.
